Ζητάμε από τον Δήμο Ρόδου ενημέρωση για την πορεία των μελετών, των έργων, την χρηματοδότηση και την αποκατάσταση του Εθνικού Θεάτρου της Ρόδου. Καλούμε όσους στηρίζουν τον Πολιτισμό και τις Τέχνες, να ενώσουν τις φωνές τους υπογράφοντας το ψήφισμα.

Το Εθνικό Θέατρο Ρόδου είναι διατηρητέο μνημείο, κτίστηκε το 1937, κατά την Ιταλική κατοχή και αποτελεί τυπικό δείγμα του διεθνούς κινήματος στην αρχιτεκτονική κατά την εποχή του μεσοπολέμου. Ως Θέατρο “Giacomo Puccini” φιλοξένησε θεατρικές παραστάσεις και παραστάσεις όπερας με ιταλικούς θιάσους. Μετά την ενσωμάτωση της Δωδεκανήσου (1947) στην Ελλάδα, στέγασε το Εθνικό Θέατρο Ρόδου, το οποίο έκλεισε το 2005 για να γίνουν επιδιορθώσεις οι οποίες ήταν απαραίτητες και παραμένει κλειστό έως σήμερα.

The National Theatre of Rhodes is a Protected Monument. It was built and opened its doors in 1937 during the Italian occupation. This historic and imposing building was built by the Italian architect Bernabiti. It was named «Teatro Puccini» («Theatre Puccini") in honour of the great Italian composer

Giacomo Puccini. The massive theatre had its big moments of glory hosting even performances of Italian Οpera but also as Cinema Puccini. After

the war and the Unification of Rhodes with Greece in 1947, it continued to

function as a theatre and cinema in the city as ΄΄The National Theatre of Rhodes΄΄. It stands on the main Town Hall square of Rhodes. Its impressive unique architecture, combining the "International style" and the "Italian (fascist) style" architecture is expressed by the cubist mood, simplicity and symmetry, lack of any ornamentation, horizontal openings and much more. For this reason, it is one of the most famous examples of the art of “Finta pietra” with glass blocks in Greece. The main facade of the theatre imitates the great walls of Porta Marina. The main hall is impressive with great depth and height and could

accommodate up to 1,200 guests. It also featured a stunning foyer, luxury boxes

and a very large balcony. Despite its long history, the building was abandoned in 2005 in order to carry out urgent repairs but never re-opened since then. Unfortunately, it remains closed until today.
