Rhodes International Festival was founded in the summer of 2007 , on Rhodes island Greece,well known as “The Island of Knights”. The main focus is the venue of the festival, the famous Palace of the Grand Magister -Palace of the Knights, located in the medieval city which has been declared a Monument of World Cultural Heritage by Unesco.
Major orchestras, ensembles and distinguished artists including the Camerata Armonia Atenea, the Symphony Orchestra of the Greek Radio Television-ΕΡΤ, the internationally renowned pianist Cyprien Katsaris, the distinguished piano soloist Dimitris Sgouros, the famous orchestra "Viento de Tango" from Italy, the Renaissance Vocal Ensemble "CantArte" from Germany, "Diphono" from New York, are some of the orchestras and artists presented at the festival. Paolo Micciche, the famous stage Director honored the festival 2015 too by participating with his productions and eminent artists from Italy and France
The Rhodes International Festival 2016 will take place from 6-12 September under the Artistic & Managing Direction of the Cultural Manager, Penelope Serdari, the auspices of: the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Hellenic National Commission for Unesco, the Russian Cultural & Scientific Center in Athens. The festival is organised by the non profit Cultural Organisation for the dissemination of the Arts, "Rhodes International Festival" and the Municipal Culture and Sports Organization of Rhodes, with the support of the Greek National Tourism Organization- GNTO and “Rhodes 2021 /European Capital of Culture Candidate City” organization.
The festival has been recognized as one of the most successful festivals in Greece, earning excellent reviews as well as the support of mass media. Every year attracts music lovers mainly from abroad and Greece.
Russia is the honored country of the 2016 festival, within the frame of the “Greek-Russian friendship” year. The distinguished Russian pianist Vadim Palmov is the guest of honor, of the Rhodes International Festival official opening concert on Tuesday 6 of September.
On Wednesday 7 of September, the festival presents Yiannis Andronoglou, one of the most prestigious Greek guitarists with international fame characterized by the Italian Press as the “Absolute master of his art”, will perform works by spanish & latin american composers
On Saturday 10 September the Greek oudist, pianist and composer Alekos Vretos merges jazz, Arabic, Greek and Latin music in a masterful and uplifting blend of sounds.
The 2016 festival will say good bye to the audience on Monday 12 of September, with the most popular female electric quartet “Fortissimo” in a dynamic show with Classical, Latin, Rock & Pop international hits
